Speaking from experience, besides a few kind Jews that used to be there, like Alicia, most everyone else there is fake as can be! They do not really practice real Judaism. It's all about money!
I have watched them turning people away from coming into high holiday services because they did not have tickets. Tickets that cost a lot of money that some can not afford. Very sad.
In my experience most members of the congression are interested in measuring the clothes you are wearing and whether or not you fall into their high " standard , whatever that may be. Fake, fake, fake. They are more interested in raising money and help to other non - Jews organizations for their fame than to a close by fellow Jew who can't afford their crazy membership prices. They cater and kiss the "... " Of the rich families who go there.
Four generations of my family have been nurtured here since 1953.
Amazing synagogue with great congregation and rabbi.
We found simplicity, real kindness, no judgment, real jewdisim in "Chabad of Oak Park". That is where we found a real examole of jewdisim being practices and preached.
I am a long-time member of WSTHZ; my kids grew up in the shul from preschool through Hebrew High. I have found the Temple community to be warm, welcoming and nurturing throughout. My husband, who is extremely supportive but not Jewish, feels the same. Our community has supported us through difficult health issues and celebrated with us many simchas. Our children were mentored and encouraged at every turn by Temple members, Rabbi Mirelman and Cantor Figa, were very active in USY and attended Shabbat services weekly. Even though our children are now grown and do not live in the area any longer, we all still feel like WSTHZ is a second home. Our current Rabbi, Adir Glick, is an excellent fit for our community with a deep religious and spiritual background and an open, kind nature. I highly recommend WSTHZ to those shopping for a shul; you will not be disappointed but will be uplifted.
I finally decided to tell my view. It took a few years but now it's time.
There is a very nasty lady working in their office, her name starts with a C. She is the meanest person I have ever met in my life and does so much damage to this place and it is beyond logic that they continue to let her be there. I know many families who have been so hurt by her including myself who left this place a while ago because of her.
I think Har Zion is a very holy place and I am proud to be a new member of the congregation who is under Adonai with the direction of a new dynamic Rabbi. Shalom to all.
I am very sad to say this but it's all about the fake speeches and most everyone do not practice reall kindness where you look for and help your fellow Jews who are less fortunate and who are close to you.
